Week 5 EOC: Health Care reform

When I think about the word reform, improvement comes to mind, some sort of modification. Health care Reform is supposed to change lives, as the government have stated. But what is really improving? The Current population Survey 2007 from the US Census Bureau shows thousands of people currently uninsured. If this Reform could be made possible, it would relieve many citizens/residents of the United States to get the appropriate care they need. Because there are so many people without health insurance, early detection is almost impossible on most fatal diseases. While this is a much talked about topic, I feel very little is being done to move this forward. The governmental parties are in disagreement with each other while in the meantime many people are suffering from lack of medical care.
According to the survey, majority of people have some type of insurance during the year (2007). Many used to cover under employment insurance, but since the downward spiral in the economy, those who were once covered are now unemployed and unable to afford out of pocket insurance. This is where the health care reform would be a good idea. The government should step in and assists those with medical insurance. Systems are put in place for a reason. As with every form of government assistance, people tend to abuse the system, thus making it difficult for those who could really use help at times.
In households with males, it is considered that the man, as head of household should provide coverage for his family. The ones most often covered are those between the ages of 55-65yrs. If the household income is over $75,000, it is more likely that they are covered under private insurance. The government health plan coverage is the least because to obtain this assistance, an extensive qualification process is inevitable and some shy away due to that process.
My desire is to see this reform up and going, so that those who are in desperate need of medical assistance, can receive it with less hassle.
It's time for the change, the modification, and the improvement.
